Short simple steps to make a pregnant belly cake. Great baby shower cake.
Hello, thanks so much for making both this and the “how to make fondant” videos.. I’m going to attempt to make this cake tomorrow, so I wil have to let you know how it turns out.. I was nervous before, but am now somewhat excited!! Thanks again!
@Mzniklewis Hello, what did you use underneath the fondant? Maybe the frosting was not thick enough for the fondant to stick to. Don’t give up on using
Fondant. Each time you cover a cake the process becomes easier and easier. Make sure the fondant is about the thickness of a nickel when you cover your cakes.
wow that was beautiful. I tryed making a fondant cake and it didnt turn out to good. Its like the fondant didnt stick to the cake once we cut it.
You did a great job!
@Rondalv sure..thank you so much..but i won’t be soon..its for a baby shower but i will send u some pics or post it on my page but ill let u know wen. Thanks sooo much!!
@mariah1227 Cold cakes always handle better than a room temp cake. If you have the time to spare I would recommend chilling the cake first. Send me a pic if you decide to try it
@Rondalv is it better if i chill it though or it doesnt matter? cuz this cake turned out very well
@Rondalv oh ok thank you…i love your video’s. : D
@mariah1227 typically I chill the cakes before I cover them. I did not chill this one when I made the video though.
after u frosted the cake did u chill it before placing fondant?
cool ideas thanks for sharing, from sandra my website modern-baby-shower-ideas
u should add a song to ur video
:~D
I got it at Jo-ann superstores. You can find it at any Michael’s, Jo-Anns’ or Hobby Lobby. Look in the Wilton isle.
Where did you get the fondant cutter you used to cut the strips?
Right! I like my stainless steel bowls as well. Both are also great for doll cakes.
I also use a glass bowl to bake my round cakes like this in…bought them at Target…. You just have to round it out some bcse it has the flat bottom where the belly is…. but it works for me…
Tee hee! Try using both sides of the ball pan. Join it together with frosting. Cut off a piece so that the ball lies flat on the bottom and you will have a larger belly.
ok, yours just looks so much bigger on the video I guess. The ball pan I have is not much bigger than one of the wonder molds. lol I guess I will make it work, but its going to have some big tatas
I used 1/2 of the sports ball pan. As far as I know it only comes in one size. If you are trying to make a really big belly cake you can always carve some round cakes on the sides and use them for the belly. Let me know if you have other questions.
ok your belly part looks so much bigger than the pan i have. I purchased a pan just to make this and its really tiny. Do they make a bigger pan?
Yes, the sports ball is what I used for the belly. It is small, but you should be able to feed about 8 people. Each half of the ball takes 21/2 cups batter. I also made a belly cake and placed it on top of a sheet cake. Just put the belly cake on a cardboard rectangle and then place on your dowel rodded sheet cake.
great video..i will be maing this 2 wks from now for a friends baby shower…
just a question i checked out the sports ball pan in micheals yesterday 9wilton pan)…the ball seemed pretty small…the box said sports ball pan..is that what u used?and also for an idea…how many ppl can feed out of this cake…?
please do reply…
I doubt I used two pounds of fondant. The cake is really small. If you have five pounds you have more than enough. I think you could get by with the three cups as well. You could always mix it with some of your ready made fondant if you need to stretch it….no pun intended
Thanks, you make it look so easy! lol!! how much fondant did you use to make this cake? just an idea.. I have 5 lb fondant but also was thinking of trying MMF as well but the recipe is for 3 cups! thanks!
I love this i am going to do this to tell my fanily i am pregnant!
